Bariloche: Penthouse 1004 & La Morada

Beautiful city, lots of chocolate shops and loads of people; 2 Hostels, both in beautiful areas with fantastic views, ensure you take the time to appreciate the mellowness of La Morada

El Calafate: America del Sur

Ritzy purpose built super friendly town; comfortable accomodation, super staff that will go out of their way to do anything for you, not that there's much to do beyond Perito Moreno (which will blow your socks off!)

Mendoza: Campo Base I & II +

Great city; plenty of stuff to do! Make sure you check out Mt. Aconcagua, White Water Rafting, Absailing (Repeling), the thermal springs & plenty of local wineries. The best thing is, this joint organises all

Rosario: Pichincha Hostel

The birthplace of Che, this is a pretty cool and relaxing place with a big nightlife on the weekend. There is another more central HI Hostel, but this ex-whorehouse has doubles within a decent price range

Chalten Travel

These guys own half of Patagonia but also organise Ruta 40 trips (2 days), Tours in & around Fitzroy NP & El Calafate and Accommodation too +

Tribeca Serviced Apartments

For what you are getting, this place is so worth the splurge! Central location, roof-top mini spa, gym, massive rooms with massive beds, good cheap restaurant in a fantastic city! What more do you need?

Restaurant Olsen

This Nordic Restaurant is amazing with 60+ different types of Vodka, delicious dishes, a fantastic set-up and in my favourite part of town: Palermo Hollywood. There's one in Madrid too, can't wait to get there!

Itamambuca Beach, near Ubatuba: Mario's House

Don't click on this cause you won't get anywhere, but give Mario a call on (12) 9706 3212 to hang out in this cool house with a view situated 2 minutes walk from a beautiful surf covered beach for only R$20 a night, get off the gringo trail!

Isla de Chiloe, Chonchi: Esmeralda by the Sea

Great relaxing town with not much to do but eat seafood, walk, fish, relax & read; sound like your kind of place? Then Esmeralda is perfect for you

Santiago: La Casa Roja

Alot of travellers aren't a fan of Santiago, I think it's clean, safe & has plenty of great attractions (make sure you check out Cerro Santa Lucia); LCR is a big, busy hostel conveniently located but don't plan on getting too much sleep

Valparaiso: Villa Maria Antonieta

Old Port town that grows on you the longer you spend there, ViÃ±a del Mar is merely a super quick train ride away; VMA has awesome staff, relaxing joint, well looked after with good facilities

Andescape Tours

These guys are where it's at anything Torres del Paine. They even helped me organise my crazy bus wait bus wait fly combo from Puerto Natales to BA. Just say the word and they'll sort it out for you

We have to admit that we didn't really stay in the coolest places in Uruguay due to a serious lack of hostels but you can use this site to basically check it all out, not just in the big U but all of SA. Don't miss Sacramento de Colonia - very cool!
